about our organization

Dont Bully My Breed is a registered 501c3 non-profit animal rescue and advocacy organization, primarily focusing on saving 'pitbull' type dogs from animal controls and kill shelters and placing them in foster homes located all over the state of Illinois and Northwest Indiana. We are a 100% volunteer organization and foster-based network operating solely on the generous donations we receive from our supporters and funds we raise through events and adoptions, all of which goes right back to the dogs. We are committed to rescue, rehabilitate, and when they are ready, re-home the many bully breed dogs in need into loving forever homes.

While our mailing address is Peoria, we have volunteers in both Central IL, the Chicagoland area, and from as far away as Oregon. We are a small core team of 5 main volunteers who all have "full-time" regular jobs and operate the rescue as a passion together. We partner with many respected area trainers who only use positive based, force-free training methods & approaches. We also have strong relationships with several local veterinarian offices who help take wonderful care of our adoptables until their forever homes are found.

Our Adoptables

My name is Eli and I am just as sweet and smooth as an Eli’s Cheesecake. Who doesn’t love cheesecake, right? So nice to make your acquaintance.

I am a younger guy, approximately 2.5 years old. I haven’t met a person I didn’t want to drop into their arms and lap. I’m a very docile, fun loving, food motivated guy. I’m a little on the skinny side right now but my foster parents are helping me get to my ideal weight of 6-65 lbs. I am working on potty training and crate training but getting better every day. You see, I was found as a stray extremely underweight and maybe never had a real home, or at least one I was allowed inside. This inside life is pretty darn good though. Getting to eat twice a day is amazing and this soft, plush stuff you call blankets and carpets…..heaven. I currently live with 3 4 legged foster siblings and doing very, very well with them. They are showing me some of the ropes on living the good life too.

That’s me in a nutshell. Please let my good friends know if you are interested in meeting me at info@savethepitbull.or or fill out an application at https://form.jotform.us/DBMB/guardianship-application-form and they will handle all the details on my behalf.

Being fostered in Bloomington, IL.

Bacon is just another name for meat candy.  Bacon is a 4-year-old tall drink of water.   He wants everyone to say hello to him and doesn’t understand how anyone can refuse him and his floppy ears.  He is a big, goofy, gentle boy who is potty trained and crate trained. He is a cuddle monster who won’t pass up a meal or any treat. He enjoys walks and lots of couch time.  Bacon lights up around kids but would due best in a quiet, calm home.
Bacon does require an experienced adopter because he does display some guarding behavior that we are working on rehabilitating with a reputable, positive reinforcement, force free veterinarian behaviorist.

He truly is a special boy that is looking for his special family. Could that be yours?  Fill out an application here or email info@savethepitbull.org for more info!

*Due to the location of our volunteers, foster homes and training resources, all potential adopters need to be within 2 hours of Chicago.

Fostered in Chicago.

“I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving” Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr

My name is Oliver and I am so pleased to meet you. I am looking for my genuine forever home. My journey has not been an easy one but I am determined to finally find my people. You see I have met a lot of people and although they all loved me, none of them were able to keep me. That’s how I ended up as an adoptable with my good friends at Dont Bully My Breed.
Some call me Mr. Manners because I walk so nicely, look to my people for guidance, even know a few tricks too. I am big eater. Love my food. Love any food really which is really a plus in helping me learn even more mannerisms. I am about 1.5 years old, crate trained and potty trained. I am learning how to use food puzzles and its blowing my mind how fun, active and wonderful it is that these things feed me and give me exercise; mentally and physically. I have lived with small dogs and a cat and am learning the ropes from my same size foster sister now. She’s a good influence on me. I'm looking for an active family with a quiet home, maybe even a yard of my own to practice all the cool new tricks I've learned.

I love the outdoors but I have yet to see if I am a water boy. I can be an active guy and then a lazy dud too. I'm kinda the best of both worlds in that respect.

Willie is a 6/7 month old pitbull mix who is very much a puppy! He is just about house trained and gets along well with other dogs and cats. He loves to cuddle with his foster momma and play with foster siblings. He is eager to learn and please and would benefit from a basic obedience class with his new family.

Lucky is, well, Lucky!  He came into the vet with a foreign object in his intestines.  He was surrendered to the vet who performed emergency surgery to remove the foreign object (big sock) just in time. He pulled through the surgery like a champ.  He is now well on his way to recovery.

Lucky is around 1 year & 4 months old and has done well with all people he has met as well as a female dog and a small dog. He hasn't shown any reaction to cats either. He is 42lbs of squatty gentle adorableness and we literally can't get enough of those ears!

Please meet our precious jewel Ruby. This gem just wants to be your best friend for life.

Ruby is a 3 year old happy wiggle butt who is a little clumsy from time to time but if she bonks into things, she bounces right back with her huge smile. She simply can’t get enough of her belly rubs and will even give out her happy snorts once in a while. Ruby is potty trained, does well with other dogs and she is learning to keep all paws on the ground. We would recommend a home with older children as she masters the all paws on the ground. She is very eager to please and so willing to use her noggin.

Howdy.  I’m Blue.  It’s a pleasure to e-meet you.

The best description of our boy Blue comes from the psychology of the color blue.  The color Blue is one of trust, responsibility, honesty and loyalty. It is sincere, reserved and quiet.   To think we almost changed his name when we rescued him.  Blue fits him perfectly.

Blue wants nothing more than to be by your side loving on you. He makes friends of all sizes, shapes and species wherever he goes.  His hobbies include chewing (he loves to chew), apple picking, boating, strolling along for a walk.

Below is how his sitter describes Blue.

“This boy is the perfect breed ambassador. He deserves only the best from here on out, and whomever ends up with him should feel so honored. I love him so much and can't see through my tears as I type this. He's so darn special.”

He is so special and we are looking to find him just as special of a home.  If you are interested in meeting Blue please email us at info@savethepitbull.org

Stop. You found me! Don't get too overloaded by my cuteness. Save some for when you actually meet me. Buster is my name and smiling is my game. I even smile in my sleep.

Buster is considered middle age at about 6.5 years young. You know what they say about wine, right? It gets better with time. Well, this is also true for Buster and he is hoping the best is yet to come.
Buster lives with 3 other dogs his size and gets along great with all of them. He prefers not to be crated but is non-destructive and potty trained. Due to his size, he would do best in a home with older children and sorry but no kitties for Buster.

Aged to perfection and ready for his forever home. Fill out an application today at www.dontbully.mybreed.org so we can meet each other.

Being fostered in the Elgin area.
Dont Bully My Breed does not have a central shelter facility. Please read the bio carefully to learn where the pet you are interested in is being fostered. DBMB places animals in homes throughout central IL and the greater Chicagoland area. We do not ship or transport animals.

Happy to meet you! My name is Bowser, Bow-wow-wowza, the black beauty! I love affection and have been through basic obedience and I revel in learning and working.

I would even love a forever family that is interested in running but also love to lounge around inside after too. Not only am I handsome but I don’t come with puppy issues like potty training or chewing. I am crate trained and would do great in apartment living too. I would do best as the only pet as I like to soak up all the attention.
